Our story

Meet the owner

Rick McGarry opened Bucks County Running Company on West State Street in 2007. He's a longtime runner himself, with more than 40 marathons behind him, and he still works the floor most days. Customers say he can look at the wear on your old pair and tell you what's going wrong before you've said a word.

Whether it's your first pair of running shoes or your fiftieth, Rick and the staff will take the time to get the fit right, and they'll send you off with a few tips on training and staying injury-free while they're at it.

  • Gait analysis on our indoor track
  • Wide sizes and hard-to-find fits
  • Staff who run in the shoes we sell
  • Honest advice, no upselling
Downtown Doylestown

Part of West State Street since 2007

We're a small, locally owned shop in the middle of downtown, a few doors from the County Theater and a short walk from the Mercer Museum, the courthouse and the train station. Nineteen years in the same spot means a lot of our customers are on their fourth or fifth pair with us.

Come by during a Saturday walk around town, or after the Tuesday group run. Parking is on the street or in the Doyle Street garage.

Common questions

Good to know before you visit

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk in any time we're open. A fitting usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, so give yourself a little time.

Is the gait analysis really free?

Yes. It's part of every fitting. We'd rather watch you run than guess.

I'm a walker, not a runner. Is this store for me?

Absolutely. A lot of our customers walk, hike or are on their feet all day for work. The fitting process is the same.

Do you carry wide or narrow sizes?

Yes, in most of our brands. If you've had trouble finding a fit elsewhere, this is the place to try.

Can I bring my old shoes?

Please do. The wear pattern tells us a lot about how you run.

Do you sell online?

No. Everything is sold in the store so we can fit it properly. If you need something specific, call ahead and we'll set it aside.

★★★★★
This shop is the best. The owner knows his stuff, especially as a runner with a lot of miles behind him. I love to talk biomechanics and Rick keeps up with every bit of it.

The store owner really knows his stuff. He was personable and quickly understood my complicated foot needs. I'm not an easy fit. Highly recommend.

I've shopped here for several years. Customer-focused, never try to upsell you, genuinely knowledgeable. Great place to buy running equipment.
