Meet the coach

Coach Rick McGarry

Rick opened the store in 2007 and has led the running club ever since. He's run more than 40 marathons and coached runners of every level.

He still races, mostly local road races in the Bucks Series, and he's still quick. Ask him about your training plan or your next race. He's happy to help.

Where we run

Good running around Doylestown

The Saturday run loops through the borough and out along the quieter roads and the Doylestown bike and hike paths. When the group wants a change of scenery, we head to Peace Valley Park, where the paved trail around Lake Galena is a flat six miles with water at the parking lots.

Other favorites: the D&L Canal towpath along the Delaware, Central Park in Doylestown Township, and the Neshaminy Creek trails. Ask at the store and we'll point you to a route that fits your distance.

Coaching

Training help, no charge

Rick coaches the club runs and is around the store most days. Runners come in with a race on the calendar and leave with a plan: how many miles, which workouts, when to back off. He's helped people through their first 5K and their fortieth marathon.

Common things he helps with:

  • Building up to a first 5K or 10K without getting hurt
  • Half marathon and marathon training plans
  • Race-day pacing and what to eat
  • Coming back from an injury
  • Picking races in the Bucks Series and around Philly

What to expect

A quick hello, a few minutes to sort into pace groups, then we go. Nobody gets left behind and nobody is timed. We regroup at the end and usually grab coffee.

What to bring

Water, especially in summer. A headlamp or reflective layer in the darker months. Shoes you've run in before. That's about it.

New to running?

You're welcome here. Tell Rick it's your first time and he'll pair you with someone at a comfortable pace. Run-walk is fine.
